Hebrew to English words and names
Sometimes a name will be translated if it has a certain meaning, and the new language already has a word with that meaning. However, names are supposed to be transcription transliterated when moving from one language to another, as opposed to translated. Transliterated means that it is spelled in the new language in such a way as to make it sound the same as it is in the older language. Each person chooses his own way of doing it. One might start a name with the letter 'Z' because we are familiar with it, while another might start it with 'Ts' thinking that is the more accurate sound. That is part of why we see different spellings in English for many Hebrew names. And there is a second problem in this case, the case of the scriptures: and that is the Israelite and christian desire to remove Yahweh's name from the scripture. Because of this blasphemy, names containing the name 'Yah' are changed to something else. The third issue with names is that what we read sometimes comes to us from Greek or Latin, and sometimes from Hebrew.
For example: YisraYah means "persevered with YHWH". To get rid of the Name of Yahweh their name was changed to Israel, "persevered with GOD". Scripture says that is where Yahweh chose to put His Name, and yet the scribes have removed it! They have replaced His Name with the title of the Canaanite deity, El. This is blasphemy of the highest sort! No longer is Yahweh's name found in Judah, Israel, or Jerusalem, and the Jews like it that way.
Another example: Zacharias is brought to us from the Greek, Zacharyahu from the old Hebrew, and Zachariah is what you see in most English bibles. Only the original Hebrew contains the Name of Yahweh [yahu]. Many Hebrew names contained 'Yahu' because the Israelites like to drop an 'H' if it is at the end of the name (YHWH = YHW). And then they shorten the 'Yahu' to Yah'. Exodus 3:14 shows this is acceptable ("I AM sent me", I AM = YH = Yah). And so in this website you will see both methods. An example is 'Yahushua' and 'Yahshua', both being the same name. The pagans replaced this Name with 'Jesus' in their so-called "holy" bible, except in the OT where they replaced it with 'Joshua' (thereby proving their mistakes).
Over the years the Hebrew scribes and the christians have gone to great lengths to remove the names of Yahweh and His Son Yahushua from the scriptures. Part of this process is to remove the Name of Yahweh from the names of other people and places. I am doing my best to restore these names. Please do not condemn me for any mistakes I am making. In many cases I have to guess what is correct. Sometimes Strong's Concordance gives the correct name.
Below is a list of Hebrew words (in English letters) with the common christian English mistakes. If you find a word in the scripture with which you are not familiar, look in this list.
NOTE: Everything in [square brackets] is added to the scriptural text for clarification (many versions of scripture use italics instead). For example there are places where I use the correct English name of a person or place (a name which includes Yahweh's Name) and then I give the pagan name with which christians are familiar, such as "Yaacob [Jacob]" and "Yisrayah [Israel]".
